Certainly, we experienced some of this aspect of the hotel, coming across a fashion shoot one morning by the pool and another morning catching a glimpse of Scarlett Johansson out on her balcony, chatting on her cell phone.
#WHO DIED AT CHÂTEAU MARMONT HOTEL MOVIE#
Having made the reservation before I became aware of Sofia Coppola's movie "Somewhere," which takes place at the hotel, I didn't realize that the Chateau was such a part of the Hollywood scene.
Unfortunately, this was not my experience at Chateau Marmont, where my brothers and I spent 3 nights in one of their 2 bedroom suites. The whole point of a good hotel is that it makes you feel welcome -as long as you can pay the bill on checkout. However, none of that should matter when checking into a hotel. I admit that I'm a Hollywood "nobody." I have nothing to do with the entertainment industry, and the closest connection I have to the movies is my brother, who used to work the concession stand at Regal Cinemas. In the end, it comes down to the smells & the sounds - here's the scene for me, it's dusk, you're getting ready for whatever the Hollywood evening has in store for you, flip on the Dodger game in the living room & hop in the shower while amber tones of Vin Scully float over, then crank open the rickety window in the shower & on the cool evening breeze drift in the sweet smell of nightbloooming jasmine & the gentle tinkling hum of the traffic on Sunset & the silverware & glasses from the garden - why would you not want to stay here right now & then haunt the place forever after you have passed? More Show less
It's not that hard & the relaxing rewards are totally worth it. My wife & I really don't believe in this kind of stuff, but it's haunted - not sleep with lights on haunted, but you know you are definitely never really alone in the Chateau.
#WHO DIED AT CHÂTEAU MARMONT HOTEL PROFESSIONAL#
We've been staying here since back when the Marlboro Man still towered over Sunset (Apple has had the billboard tied up for years now) The first thing that hits you when you check in is the smell - it's kind of like a "your great-grandmother's apartment" smell (a mix of old carpet & paint, yesterday's homecooked meal, & the faint odor of natural gas from the pilot light on the 70 year-old stove in the kitchen), when we smell it, we know we are home again Listen, I know the whole thing is a concept & it can be a little pretentious at times but if you give yourself over to it, the Chateau can be the most mellow, elegant, & relaxing place - I sleep better here than anywhere else Sometimes the service can be a little arch or distracted but it is never out & out rude - & over the years I have seen the famous get exactly the same treatment (just last week I saw a waiter in the lobby give the total stoneface to a wisecracking Jake Gyllenhall - awesome!) - that being said, whenever I have REALLY needed something, whether it is my car or a drink or a malfunctioning air conditioner fixed, it has been handled in a flash (this is a professional operation) Yes, it's very expensive (& then, on the weekends, the rates become obscene).
